Vehicle Description 1987 Volkswagen Cabriolet Convertible Cabriolet is French for convertible and, therefore, cabrio is just like saying 'vert.
Using cabrio is most certainly not incorrect, but those in North America posting on Volkswagen forum sites should be prepared to be badgered by those who are language ignorant due to Volkswagen's ingenious idea of naming the A3 Golf convertible Cabrio in the States.
When gazing upon this car you could never guess how many miles are on it.
It's a 1987 VW Cabriolet, which is very clean, and has a remanufactured crate with a new bottom and top end including the timing belt.
It is a new VW motor installed in 2015 and only has 3K miles on it.
As opposed to the car which has 134K clocked on it, but it has been restored.
Exterior Look! it's a Rabbit, no its a Golf! no it's a Cabriolet the official name for this car and model year.
This one has straight German steel, well minded gaps and is bathed in maroon.
It sports a belt lint trimming with black sandwiched between strips of thin chrome running the gamut.
Also, the rocker covers are black with a single thin trimming just above.
Black wheel well extenders are on all the fenders and black European bumpers with horizontal trim on top and bottom are present, (Do you see a theme here?).
Mostly square and rectangle design, keeping it simple.
A new in 2015 white canvas convertible top moves up and down flawlessly and a central roll bar holds up the top in the center and protects the passengers in case of a roll over.
15-inch wheel coverings are on all 4 corners.
I see no rust, and the paint is very nicely applied.
Interior Tan with tuck and roll square pattern broadcloth tweed for the inserts and horizontal striped light and dark tan tweed is reserved for the bolsters on the front buckets and rear bench.
These are all in good condition showing some wear and tear on the drivers back and piling on the passenger's entry bolster but are clean.
Saddle tan vinyl is saved for the bottoms and sides of the seats and matches the doors.
The tweed also is use on a small insert panel on the door panels with the remainder being saddle brown vinyl which is embossed.
A nice wood rimmed Nardi Wolfsberg castle badge rally wheel is fronting a chocolate brown square and rectangle dash with black face gauges and white numbers and pointers.
An aftermarket Sony AM/FM/CD player replaces the original.
As we move to the console, a bank of gauges stares at you and are mounted just in front of the wood knobbed, leather booted shift lever.
Clean tan carpeting covers all the floors.
Drivetrain A 1.
8 Liter 4-cylinder replacement engine is inserted within the clean engine bay.
Consigner states that this engine has 3,000 miles on it since the replacement.
It is a rebuilt crate engine with the top and bottom end and the timing chain being new.
A new clutch and clutch cable, brake master cylinder coolant hoses, radiator and thermostat were installed when the engine was replaced.
Undercarriage Ahh you've gotta love the Germans who love their aero coverings, and the undercarriage is loaded with them.
These are in fine condition, rust free and nice and solid.
Independent Macpherson strut front suspension and independent rear suspension work with power front disc brakes and power rear drum braking.
A Borla exhaust snakes its way from front to rear and is all clean and rust free.
Drive-Ability A quick starter and it did well on the test track where I ran it through its paces.
It has smooth shifting, handles very well, and all functions were ready to go at my command.
I kept the top up so I could listen to the Sony! As the consignor states that due to the replacement that took place in 2015, the TLC showed this car over the years it remains in excellent condition, runs like a rabbit, and moves like a Golf, but is badged as a Cabriolet.
Ach those crazy Germans! VIN DECODE WVWCA0157HK003787 W-West Germany V-Volkswagen W-Passenger Car C-Custom Trim A-1.
