Vehicle Description 1978 Chevrolet Malibu Since 1964, America has been watching the Chevy Malibu grow and we have been growing with it.
From its fast paced youth to refined practicality, this mid-size sedan is showing us what 'grown up' looks like; sophisticated elegance that lacks pretension.
With its numerous accolades proving that being a grown up is actually kind of fun.
In 1964 when the Malibu first premiered, it was a small family sedan.
Like its namesake city, it was fun, youthful and happening.
It was a rear wheel drive vehicle in its first four generations and it offered 300 horsepower in a small block V8.
It was a bit audacious and fun to drive.
For consignment, a beautifully reworked 1978 Chevrolet Malibu.
Straight steel, tinted glass, modified using other GM vehicle interiors, (but retaining its comfort), and a fire breathing monster under the hood, it is ready for any street race you can throw at it.
This car can throw you back in two waysone in time to 1978, and two, into your seat! A self-professed tire shredding street beast.
Exterior Save for the large scooped hood with an air cleaner assembly poking through, body colored shaved and tucked bumpers, chin spoiler and polished Jegs Sport Lite wheels with big 275/60R15 meats on the back, it appears as a normal Chevy Malibu.
Although the tinted windows and overall sinister demeanor may give it away.
The slab sided steel body is laser straight and gaps are nearly showroom, all bathed in the deep end of the pool Midnight Black.
A small spoiler hangs on the back and just below are a pair of rectangular taillights with 3 rectangular lenses each.
A clean trunk provides ample room for anything you would like to carry and looks just fine with its black carpeted liner.
Interior A swing of the doors and we see beautifully preserved vinyl and molded plastic door panels with a mid-section molded pull and armrest along with new window cranks and molded in speakers down low.
A deviation from the original has been made in the form of Oldsmobile 442 gray broadcloth high back bucket seats in the front and a matching gray broadcloth bench in the rear.
A black center console races between these buckets and has a new lid for its storage compartment and holds a B&M Z-Gate ratchet shifter with obligatory T handle.
The simplistic dash was removed, cleaned up and painted black.
A rally style 3 spoke steering wheel fronts the stock gauge cluster and a large chrome bezel tachometer is firmly mounted to the column.
Just below this cluster are headlight and wiper controls and to the lower right we see an aftermarket fuel gauge.
Hanging from the driver's A-pillar are a trio of gauges to monitor engine vitals as well as supercharger boost levels.
The center of the dash drops down to meet the console and has the heat & AC slides as well as an aftermarket AM/FM/CD player.
Clean black carpet floods the floors, and a black plastic headliner hangs above.
Drivetrain Flipping open the hood and we have the money shot! Lurking in the cleanly detailed engine bay is a blueprinted crate engine in 383ci form.
It has a Comp Cams gear drive and Lunati blower cam residing within.
AFR aluminum heads are bolted by ARP hardware and have Crower hardened pushrods and roller rockers mounted to them.
Tall black valve covers with 383 Stroker protect the valvetrain and look just right baby bear.
A Holley 980cfm boost reference carburetor sits atop a Weiand supercharger and handles the air and fuel end of things well.
A HEI Flamethrower distributor works with MSD 8.
8 wire to keep the fire lit.
Keeping things cool is a new water pump, Wells 4 row radiator and dual cooling fans.
Bolted to the back of this mill is a rebuilt TH350 3-speed automatic transmission with Red clutches, a heavy duty sprag gear, B&M shift kit, and a B&M Holeshot 3200rpm stall converter.
The rear differential is courtesy of a Grand National and a 10 bolt with a 3.
73 gear ratio and a Moser cover.
Undercarriage The hits just keep on coming underneath in this pristine rust-free environment all coated with POR-15 to stave off any rust, just miles and miles of black steel is seen.
Independent coil spring front suspension is on along with a 4-link rear suspension with coil springs with new shocks seen all around.
Headers send spent fossils through a snaking pair of dual exhaust and Pypes Violator mufflers before ending just aft of each rear wheel.
On the stopping front we have power disc brakes in the front with new calipers, pads, rotors, and lines.
Rear power drum brakes are noted and these have new shoes, hardware, and wheel cylinders.
A new Quickfuel fuel pump is seen along with new 3/8 lines and all AN fittings.
Well done down below! Drive-Ability This car was built with the intention of going in a straight line, and it does an excellent job of this.
It started right up, and definitely goes like the wind.
Not a bad driver considering it has the power to possibly lift the front end, and all interior functions work as they should.
Also, a note this car sounds awesome if you prefer LOUD! A beautiful build everywhere you look.
Exterior is wonderfully straight and racy, interior is clean, and all buttoned up with some racing additions, and the drivetrain is certainly a who's who of the performance world.
Plenty of engine performance mods, and those Street Lite wheels, and if you can catch a glimpse as it goes by, you'll see it is simply putFAB! Custom FAB if you will! VIN DECODE 1T27M8B436884 1-Chevrolet T-Malibu 27-2 Door Sport Coupe M-3.
