Vehicle Description 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air 2-Door Hardtop Imagine a car so popular that a new term came to be based on that design.
That name is Tri-Five, which refers to 1955, 1956, and 1957 Chevrolet automobiles, in particular the Bel Air, 150, 210, hardtops, sedans, wagons and the Nomad.
With beautiful proportions and new skins each of those successive years, and a thorough peppering of chrome, these cars produced in this time became iconic.
From all original to highly modified versions, many Tri-Five clubs have sprung up to showcase individuality, originality, and the beloved Chevrolet concepts of Harley Earl and his team.
On our consignment floor is a beautiful older restoration of the first year Tri Five (1955).
Then in 2016 all the brightwork was re-restored, a new crate motor installed along with new glass, wiring, brake upgrades and the addition of power steering.
Add in some snappy wheels along with iconic mid 50's two tone color, you cannot go wrong in this car.
Did I mention it's a real looker too! Exterior Bathed in Regal Turquoise with an India Ivory top and back 1/3, the paint can be described as an older application now showing some wear in the form of dings, touchups and scratches.
It's does still retain a mirror-like shine with good depth but some evidence of spot in work.
A dueling trim spear setup is seen, nice and shiny, with the front spear starting at the headlight and going halfway through the doors.
A second larger spear picks up lower on the door where the front one left off and jets rearward ending at the rear bumper.
These also provide the delineation between the Ivory and Turquoise paint scheme.
A very nice bumper frames the front and leads to the perfect Ferrari-esque egg crate grille in shiny silver.
Also, the rear contains the wonderful lamplighter style taillights and standard badging on the trunk.
Beautiful brite-work throughout surrounding all glass, lights and badging shown in your grandmother's handwriting.
15 American Racing Torque Thrust wheels in blackwall rubber adorn this car and give a nice muscle look to this 50's classic.
This car and its chrome just glisten and appear perpetually wet.
Interior A dual fan shaped dash with speedo on the left and speaker with badging on the right, complete with round clock below, is bordered by the stamped aluminum trim strip with bowtie cutouts.
Turquoise is on top and below in metal plus the addition of a trio of gauges to monitor engine vitals.
All this is in very good condition.
Sitting in front of the dash is a nicely done convertible style split back bench which uses the turquoise as bolsters and the ivory as tuck and roll inserts and with seat belts.
The rear bench is also well done and matches the front bench in style and condition.
On the door panels a swoop pattern also in the turquoise and ivory frames the interior on either side.
The doors show shiny window cranks, and a pristine ivory vinyl armrest sculpted within.
The AM/FM/Cassette retro radio is inserted into the center of the dash and above is a beautiful ivory vinyl headliner with chromed strips to border each panel.
This shows off very well with the completely trimmed windows, and a sea of turquoise carpet in good condition below.
Drivetrain Under the hood is more glistening and wet paint looking surfaces including the orange/red block, chrome valve covers and shiny chrome air cleaner and attachments.
A 350ci crate motor V8 engine, new in 2016, is present and is topped with aluminum cylinder heads, an Edelbrock intake manifold, a single 4-barrel carburetor, and a Comp Cams XE262H camshaft has been installed.
A new water pump, alternator, and aluminum radiator are also noted as well as an electric 2 speed wiper motor.
A nice one here! 3 speeds for the rebuilt in 2016 TH350 automatic transmission backing up the engine and 3.
36 gears are in the rear axle.
Hard to find many errors under this hood.
Undercarriage Underneath we are greeted with a very condition restoration which has taken place, so the frame and floor pans are very nicely preserved and are structurally like a rock.
Black paint covers the frame, meanwhile the floors are protected with a coating of black rust proofing.
Power disc brakes for the front, and power drums for the rear provide the whoah factor.
Also, power steering, with a CPP series 500 steering box is optioned on and all suspension, independent coil spring int he front and leaf spring in the rear is performing flawlessly.
Rams horn exhaust manifolds lead down to new 2-1/2 dual exhaust with Glasspack style mufflers.
Drive-Ability She fires up with barely a turn of the key.
On the test track it has great acceleration, smooth and tight steering, bias free panic stopping, and all was working famously.
An older restoration with some recent upgrades on the performance and mechanical fronts.
Clean undercarriage and nice older paint, leave us with a great example of a 1955 Bel Air.
A turnkey car that is a goer and a shower.
So use it for both.
