Vehicle Description 1940 Ford Pickup Early on in the history of Ford Motor Company a noticeable lowercase e completed the curl at the back of the cursive F on the Ford name.
Henry Ford, and Thomas Edison both had winter estates in Ft.
Meyers Florida, and shared ideas and cigars.
One idea that would make Ford a real innovator was the concept of the assembly line.
This original idea came from Edison, and in deference to him and his idea, Henry Ford honored him in his early logo with that e on the curl, and as they say the rest is history! For consignment, a bit of beautiful Ford design from 1940 in the form of a pickup.
This all metal truck with wood bed insert and just enough hot rod cues, all having been painstakingly restored by Ed Kowalski and bathed in a two tone maroon and black.
A nice look with its rounded fenders and grille, and now new interior with many conveniences.
So, let's go haul some hay and unbeknownst to the competition, we can also haul some ass! Exterior Starting out with the obvious V shaped waterfall grille with its shiny center grilles work in unison with the rounded exterior black fenders upfront, and single teardrop bezel round style headlight on either side.
Below is an original stock bumper with bumper guards and a tubular over-rider which works very nicely with the styled front of this truck, almost like a 40's mustachioed gentleman.
A maroon V shaped rounded off hood works its way rearward to the split windshield.
Long stalks support round mirrors on either door, along with a nicely preserved handle to open these doors.
These are surrounded by the rounded design cabin with a small rectangular rear glass window.
Running boards in black ribbed format are below and makes for easier access to the cabin while connecting the bulbous front and rear fenders.
The metal sided bed has been re-lined on the inside with new oak wood and shiny mounting strips and has some rolled steel at the top edge on either side.
A new gate is on and shows nicely and flanking the bed is a wonderfully shaped pontoon styled rear fender.
Protruding from the bed sides are simple round lenses for the tail lighting.
Below the gate is another stock rear bumper with guards that has tailpipes peeking from either side.
It is painted in body matching maroon.
Wheels are wonderful maroon painted steel with large polished dog dish caps that are shod in G78-15 rubber.
Interior A swing of the door and I'm tempted to slam it shut again so all that 40's styling does not ooze out! Simple maroon painted steel for the doors frames well-kept shiny actuators and cranks.
A low back burgundy colored cloth bench seat stretches from door to door and the factory column reaches for the driver all the while sporting a red and white 2 spoke steering wheel.
Meanwhile, on the maroon steel dash is seen the factory gauge cluster and an auxiliary oil pressure gauge below.
Black steel makes up the headliner and the pillar coverings and a black ribbed rubber mat, very clean, covers the floors and allows the long-armed shifter to rise up.
Drivetrain Under the rounded V style hood in a clean fully restored engine bay, is a rebuilt 239ci Flathead V8.
Our consignor states that this mill was rebuilt by Bill Getty, who is known for his quality flathead builds.
On top is a Ford 2-barrel carb, and on back a smooth shifting 3-speed manual transmission.
The rear tires spin via a 4.
44 geared rear axle.
Undercarriage Wonderfully clean black painted metal and mechanicals as well as some of the bed oak shows with on a few spattering's of road dirt and is all very structurally sound.
From the body hangers to the running boards and all in between it's all looking very nice.
Transverse leaf springs for the front suspension and rear and drum brakes are seen all around.
A dual exhaust works its way rearward, and it includes Smithy mufflers.
Drive-Ability Classic old trucks are always eye-catching, hence why when I need recognition I take one of these into town just to look cool, (even though I'm far from it), and it works! This truck fired right up and was ready for my trip, which has good smooth acceleration, shifting and ride, along with the brakes which are good but pulled right.
All functions, save for the horn not tooting and the transmission occasionally popping out of 2nd gear while coasting, were functioning swimmingly.
With its early 40's iconic look, nice maroon and black paint, and solid frame and mechanicals, this truck is a great promo piece that is begging for your business name to be put on the doors and go out for more work.
Classic trucks are hot right now, so don't delay too long as it may get snapped up, especially since this is truly the only 1940 version we have in house.
It's that grille that grabs you.
And the fact of it being well built doesn't hurt either! Classic Auto Mall is a 336,000-square foot classic and special interest automobile showroom, featuring over 650 vehicles for sale with showroom space for up to 1,000 vehicles.
