Vehicle Description 1950 Chevrolet 3100 Pickup Advance-Design was a pickup truck series by Chevrolet, their first major redesign after WWII.
Its GMC counterpart was the GMC New Design.
It was billed as a larger, stronger, and sleeker design in comparison to the earlier AK Series.
First available on Saturday June 28, 1947, these trucks were sold with various minor changes over the years until March 25, 1955, when the Task Force Series trucks replaced the aging Advance-Design model.
For consignment, a turnkey truck that's ready to be enjoyed.
Taking the Advance-Design a few steps further with an eye pleasing 2 tone paint, a clean wood lined bed, updated brakes, an updated electrical system and even some slight hot rodding thrown in, but still retaining the majority of its underpinnings and mechanicals, I present to you, the 1950 Chevrolet 3100 pickup Exterior This curvaceous truck is bathed in a mix of Seacrest green and Rain Forest Green Metallic with it's straight steel rust free panels and curving fenders.
A few scuffs and scratches are noted in the finish but certainly no rust anywhere to be seen.
Upfront a grille which curves to match the hood above, is a mix of Seacrest Green with cream inserts and looks fine.
Below the grille is a Seacrest Green filler pan and chromed curved single bumper and a large Chevrolet badge above which undulates around the rounded hood.
Single headlights on the front of rounded over bump out Rain Forest Green fenders frame the lighter green hood.
This large hood rests up to the split windshield with near perfect glass, and a nicely rounded over single door cab sits behind the hood.
Below this cab, and behind the front fender right at the rocker is a dark green metal running board/step up which extends into the rear pickup bed for access to the front of the bed.
Behind this is another nicely rounded fender which flanks either side of the straight steel bed.
The bed is lined with white oak and stainless strips are installed between the planks and paisley CHEVROLET badging is on the tailgate.
Taillights and a single chrome bumper hang from the sides and back on this truck.
15-inch Seacrest Green steel wheels with wide whitewall rubber and chrome CHEVROLET dog dish caps are on all 4 corners and offset the paint beautifully.
Interior Brown vinyl mixes with grayish taupe metal for the doors, dash, and rear of the carb.
A black vinyl bench seat gives room for 3 and remains tear free with nice black piping and added seatbelts.
The original metal dash sports its dual round gauge cluster and speedometer in front of the big steering wheel.
A central chrome horizontal ribbed speaker cover has silver trimmings above and below with Chevrolet script on the upper piece and the factory AM radio resides above.
Black dirt free rubber matting floods the floors and a partial tan headliner hangs above.
Drivetrain Flipping the hood, we are greeted with a beautifully restored engine bay and a gray painted block which is a circa 1955 235ci inline 6-cylinder with full pressure oiling and split manifolds.
A ribbed and polished valve covering is seen, and a Holley 390cfm 4bbl carburetor is sandwiched between a chrome air cleaner and a Clifford performance intake manifold.
Bolted onto the back of the mill is a 4-speed manual transmission with the first gear being a creeper gear.
On the back is a rear differential with 4.
11 gearing.
Undercarriage Black paint covers the rear section of the frame, and the underside of the wood lined bed is just as nice as above.
Moving forward more black paint and undercoating is sprayed on the flooring, rockers, and frame.
The running board undersides are finished in dark green and remain rust free.
A Clifford header leads down to a glasspack style muffler for the exhale.
Leaf spring suspension is on around along with power front disc brakes and power rear drum brakes to round out our tour of the undercarriage.
Drive-Ability A fine and nicely built truck is always a pleasure to drive and always brings a smile to my face.
This truck did not disappoint on the performance front with smooth acceleration, good easy shifting, and it got me down the road.
All functions were in working order save for the heater blower not blowing, the radio refusing to belt out any tunes, and the speedometer and odometer not clicking away the speed or miles.
With the body and paint squared away and only a few shortcomings, mainly some minor functional issues that don't affect the appearance or drive-ability, this is a great truck for someone to drive and enjoy.
Great styling from the Advance-Design, a period correct stock interior, and a reliable drivetrain will make you the envy of the neighborhood and the cruise ins.
