For Sale: 2002 Chevrolet Camaro in Morgantown, Pennsylvania for sale in Morgantown, PA
Vehicle Description 2002 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Convertible History is full of rivalries between two strong competitors like Coke vs.
Pepsi, AT&T vs.
MCI, Nike vs.
Reebok, and Bill Gates vs.
Steve Jobs.
In almost every case, the competition and the drive to outdo a rival resulted in the production of superior products by both companies and benefited the consumer with high quality and lower prices.
The rivalry between the Chevrolet Camaro and the Ford Mustang has run for more than a half a century with similar results.
Both vehicles, rear-wheel-drive, 2+2 American sports coupes began their battle for customers starting in the 1960s, and each has had its ups and downs.
Except for a Camaro hiatus from 2003 to 2010, each year has brought a new model with features designed to surpass the competition.
The seemingly inexhaustible attraction of inexpensive V8 horsepower, sports car road handling, and stylish good looks has permitted the classic American pony car civil war to continue well into the 21st century.
For consignment, a 85,617 title verified mile version of the last year before the production hiatus Z28 Camaro.
Our consignor states this is a wonderful performer, runs smoothly, has a new convertible top with heated rear glass, and a new interior with seats being recovered and looking upscale.
An all working example, always garaged while the consignor owned it, and now on our grab bag table of automobiles in the form of a 2002 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 convertible.
Exterior This car retains the euro look for this final year Camaro with bulbous neoprene body matching front bumper with a v-shaped squared off oval black grille in its center.
Just above are smooth built in headlights in dual undulating form, and of course the long pony car hood which has been with the Camaro model since its inception.
Chevrolet is known for their rakish styling on the front glass, and this car is no exception with that windshield leaning way back in this design.
On top is a nice canvas convertible, finished in burgundy which was not a dealer option of the era, so we can call it custom colored.
It's all clean and sporting a rear glass window with a defroster with the glass.
On the sides, straight steel and high impact plastic with well minded gaps creates the front and rear quarters.
On the rear deck where there is a wide spoiler that is very low profile.
17 x 9 inch chrome plated dual spoked, 5 spoke wheels are on all 4 corners.
Dual exhaust peek out from under the body matching neoprene bumper.
All paint is the deep end of the pool and looking very nice with a few scuffs, scratches and chips throughout.
A nifty color combo and the built on side view mirrors are to die for! Interior A swing of the stylish doors and we get loads of black molded smooth vinyl, integrated door pulls with a matching charcoal gray actuator, and plenty of power toggles to play with.
A white panel swoops in from the latch side and adds some highlight to the dark doors.
Inside, 2 tone maroon bolsters surround white tuck and roll centers, forming high back integrated headrest buckets.
These sport white stitching, and are like new, and indeed they are replacing the originals.
In back the same applies with the 2 plus 2 rear buckets bordered in the center with the hump which is covered in black carpeting.
Racing through the center of the front buckets is a beautifully sculpted molded plastic console which houses the glovebox/armrest, a cup holder, the shifter handbrake and top switch, lighter and 12 volt accessory port.
As it rides to the dash center we note the temp knobs and fan controls, a digital AM/FM/CD radio with plenty of features built in.
A nice tonneau cover is provided for the top when in the down position.
A beautifully and gracefully crescent arched dash top in front of the driver has all the essential gauges and warnings should something go awry during your performance drive.
Charcoal gray carpet floods the floors, and snazzy maroon embroidered badged and Z28 stitched in mat on either side.
All looking great in like new condition.
Drivetrain The factory 5.
7 Liter LS1 V8 is putting out the factory spec 310 ponies.
It is fed by EFI and has a T56 6-speed manual transmission on back.
The rear axle is a 10 bolt 3.
42 Positraction setup.
A Magnaflow exhaust helps with the easy exhale and it sports dual outlets.
Undercarriage Beautifully preserved with factory overspray still seen on floorpans and fuel tank.
That Magnaflow extra large stainless steel performance exhaust is noted on and this car has a fab tone when fired up.
Handling is courtesy front independent coil springs, and rear is torque arm with coil springs.
Power disc brakes are on all 4 corners.
Drive-Ability A quick starter and off to the test track.
I experienced the typic engine start up noise for these LS1 mills, but after the warm up it disappeared.
Here it shows neck snapping acceleration, rail like handling, and super smooth cruising.
When you need a panic stop brakes are totally bias free and work very well.
All functions were performing as they should on this Z28 Camaro.
A dual advantage to this particular car being the final year before the much chagrined hiatus, and the extra mile traveled for the interior redux.
All in a package with a mostly unassuming look, and the ability to eat up cars that look way more aggressive.
A wolf in sheep clothing.
