Vehicle Description 1979 Chevrolet El Camino Pickup Introduced in 1958 in response to Ford's Ranchero, American car-truck hybrids were originally inspired by Australia's utes, or coupe utility vehicles.
Rumor has it, in 1932, an Australian farmer's wife wrote to the Ford factory, requesting a vehicle that could get her to church in style on Sunday, and shuttle her husband's livestock to market on Monday.
Whether or not the story is true, the 1959 El Camino, a sedan-pickup truck, built on an Impala body, was Chevy's interpretation of an Australian ute, made to look good, while doing some heavy lifting.
In fact, Chevy promoted it as, the most beautiful thing that ever shouldered a load! Even claiming, It rides and handles like a convertible yet hauls and hustles like the working-est thing on wheels.
For consignment, a blank canvas, a flight of whatever your fancy is, an artists and dreamers dream in the form of a 1979 El Camino from the bowtie company.
This is a project car kind of in mid restoration with all the parts there it just needs to be finished.
A 1 family owner car since new, showing little to no rust, and it has the factory mechanicals from 1979.
Mostly finished brit needs some TLC on the paint, and just a few details to button up.
Exterior With trimmings removed in anticipation of paint, we note filled spaced and sanded body panels mostly on the front end of this ute.
It will need the grille and headlight bezels which are in the bed but those be installed after your creative painting, which the car is basically ready to have applied.
Coming from the factory it was originally a light blue and some can still be seen on the back bed and sides.
The bumpers may also need some TLC with a new dipping of chrome.
All window trimmings are good to go, badging is all there, and the bed will also need one touchup with rust remediation but it appears to only be surface rust, as seen on all panels of this car are refreshed under the primer coat.
The trimmings noted earlier now reside in the bed.
Factory wheels in 14-inch form are on as are standard issue tires which may need to be refreshed.
Interior Inside will need some door panel treatments and as noted this is totally up to you, which can be awesome.
Seating is a single split bench with lowrise headrests and are presenting in light blue broadcloth and will need at least a good cleaning.
The carpeting is a loss and needs to be replaced.
The steering wheel could use some work if not a replacement, and the dash is all there just needs a good cleaning.
The passenger door panel is on but also needs restoration.
The headliner is dirty but intact.
Drivetrain Under the hood has an aged surface rusted and dirty engine bay.
Probably your largest chunk of the project, here we note a 267ci V8 single 2-barrel carb and a TH350 transmission in 3-speed automatic form.
On back is a 10 bolt 2.
56 gear rear axle.
The engine runs.
Undercarriage Assumed from sitting a while, the undercarriage has heavy to medium surface rust throughout.
Framing and floor pans are still intact and a good blasting and coat of paint will remedy this undercarriage.
Power disc braking is upfront, and power drums on back with Independent coil springs suspension in front and a 4 link with coil springs on back.
Drive-Ability The car starts and runs fairly smoothly.
The brakes need a bleed as the pedal is soft.
TLC is the word bird on this example.
But for the restorer, a challenge with limitless possibilities and the selling price reflects the work that needs to be done.
Take it into consideration and if you need something to do, you asked for it, you got it! 1W80J9D455295 1-Chevrolet W-El Camino 80-2 Door Sedan Pickup J-267ci V8 2bbl 125hp 9-1979 D-Doraville, GA Assy Plant 455295-Sequential Unit Number Classic Auto Mall is a 336,000-square foot classic and special interest automobile showroom, featuring over 850 vehicles for sale with showroom space for up to 1,000 vehicles.
