Vehicle Description 1967 Volkswagen Beetle Hippie, also spelled hippy, member, during the 1960's and 1970's, of a countercultural movement that rejected the norms of mainstream American life.
The movement originated on college campuses in the United States, although it spread to other countries, including Canada and Britain.
The name derived from hip, a term applied to the Beatniks of the 1950's, such as Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac, who were generally considered to be the precursors of hippies.
Although the movement arose in part as opposition to U.
S.
involvement in the Vietnam War, (1955-75), hippies were often not directly engaged in politics, as opposed to their activist counterparts known as Yippies, (Youth International Party).
A frame off restoration performed in the past has left us with one of Wolfsburg's finest with a resprayed exterior, new chrome, and a nice new interior all in abundance on this now offered for consignment Beetle right out of 1967.
This rounded dream has been lovingly restored and professionally cared for during our consignor's ownership tenure.
Sporting a rebuilt 1493cc engine, a 4 speed stick shifter, the added benefit of air conditioning leaves us with a nearly like a new 1967 car gracing the North mallway of our Hallowed Halls.
I'm feelin' the love, follow along and let this bug bring out your inner hippy.
Exterior A respray of the factory correct Zenith Blue adorns this curved steel paneled beetle shaped V-dub.
Only minor inclusions are apparent in the finish, but one really has to look to find them.
The chrome is nicely preserved in the bumpers, trim, and any badging which shines wonderfully in the strong Pennsylvania Fall sun.
Gaps are very nice, and the cute little running board is all solid.
A rebuilt wiper motor clears your way on those rainy drives and works together with new blades and arms to ensure clear vision.
Highlights would be for this writer the swooping beltline molding on either side of the car which has a great line, the addition of chrome bumper overriders or bed rails if you will, and the twin chromed mini exhaust tips that peek out from under the curved bumperall good for this buggy with black painted wheels wearing polished moon caps and like new Vredestein 175/55R15 blackwall rubber.
Interior A swing of the driver's door and we see Zenith Blue metal painted steel surrounding a black horizontally ribbed vinyl door panel complete with the door handle, window crank, map pocket and a vinyl armrest.
Wonderful and new bucket seats have body hugging in addition to boosters tuck and roll stitching on the inserts.
The rear seat is a long bench and stretches from C pillar to C pillar and also shows as new.
Black carpet is on the floors, and some rubber protective mats are above the carpet.
A simple Zenith Blue painted dash with circular speedometer and square gas gauge sit within the vertical ribbed speaker area which is fronted by an original steering wheel in good condition with the Castle Wolfsburg logo in the center of the half round chrome horn ring.
The original AM radio is also mounted in the dash and fits perfectly.
Below the dash is the controller and vents for the added heater and AC unit and if one didn't think otherwise this could be construed as factory installed, it fits that well.
The headliner is white and is nice and tight in its perforated pattern.
Drivetrain A cleaned up and rebuilt 1493cc horizontally opposed 4-cylinder engine sits in the rear of this car.
It has a 1-barrel Solex carb on top and a 4-speed manual transmission bolted to the rear.
Power is transferred to the tires via a 4.
120 geared axle.
The engine appears nearly new with new crank and generator pulleys as well as a fresh oil change, a recent valve adjustment, and an upgrade to electronic ignition.
Undercarriage Minor surface rust is attaching itself to the dual exhaust system, and just a bit on the suspension, which shows as transverse torsion bars with 3 drop spindles upfront and a swing arm with torsion bars on the rear with new shocks all around.
The floor and front trunk pans present in black with a peppering of road dirt, but no invasive rust is noted.
An upgrade to disc brakes is noted on the front and in the back we see reliable drum braking to bring this bug to a safe and stable halt.
Drive-Ability This car fired right up and gave that nice tinny sound only a rear engine VW can give.
It shifted smoothly and cornered as it should.
It provided a nice ride, and even the simple interior was comfortable with plenty of interior room.
A very high quality restoration with a few stones left unturned, but not anything to write home about on the fault and flaw front.
Very nice paint, a comfy spacious interior and a good runner, a classic and sounding like it 67 V-Dub.
