Vehicle Description 2002 Chrysler Prowler Chrysler engineers were given free rein to design whatever they wanted in a hot rod or sportster type vehicle.
Thomas C.
Gale, Chrysler's design and international director's love for 1930s-era hot rods inspired Chrysler's latest design triumph, the retro-styled Plymouth Prowler.
Gale, who has a hotted up, 1932 Ford in his garage, approved the rod-inspired Plymouth Prowler as the company's follow-up show-stopper to the Dodge Viper.
An early influence is credited to a Chrysler-sponsored project at the Art Center College of Design that resulted in a thesis by Douglas Chip Foose that included drawings of a retro-roadster.
Foose designed it as a coupe for Chrysler to begin with but modified it to a roadster version.
For consignment, a retro rod similar to an aftermarket hot rod body being built from the ground up with all the trimmings, only this one comes to us directly from a factory, the Chrysler factory.
Only 67,355 consigner stated miles, (note the mileage on the title reads exempt), are on this unique facet of automobilia from a major manufacturer.
Exterior What if you took a Hot Wheels child's toy and turned it into a real car?! Take a look at thisUsing predominantly aluminum panels and adhesive to blend them together, this Prowler is in excellent condition with no rust or fillers, all original.
The panels were then coated in blue metallic on the lowers and yellow on top.
Why my gosh is it a real boycott of an example.
Just a few chips and rub off areas on this finish are seen throughout.
With its Indy style front wheels and suspension and added floating fenders that magically turn with the wheels, to its modern yet retro stylings, drop top in black canvas which hides itself into a rear clamshell cowl, and curved back trunk, you are in 1932/2002 alternate realities at the same time.
The canvas has some mold forming around the rear glass and a few slight oopsies in the form of small holes in it.
Hints of running boards which then melt into a rear fender framing 17-inch in American Racing wheels front and 20-inch American Racing wheels on the back in polished 5 spoke form.
The shield style radiator surround upfront sans black split bumpers on front, but they are on the rear, there is a retro classic in front of youmake way boyscout! Interior Black leather abounds with the buckets sitting proudly and in nicely used leather condition with a few folds and slight wear on the edge of the drivers seat.
These have a hoop style rollbar within their head rest area on top.
They flank a center console which houses a glovebox, cupholder, and auto-stick, (a shift mounted version of the tiptronic gear shift).
Keeping in tune with other earlier rod designs, this has a center elongated yellow painted oval which houses the white faced instruments.
A/C, power windows, power locks, and a stereo are seen on the dash as well.
Above the steering column is a tachometer.
Top down and we are ready to pounce retro style! Drivetrain A 3.
5 liter V6 powers this light and nimble car, and is fuel injected.
This is attached to a 4-speed automatic with the above noted auto-stick automatic gear shift actuated gearbox.
A 3.
89 rear axle is on the back.
All is looking just fine under this retro styled hood.
It has an aluminum block with a forged steel crank bedded in the four main bearings.
The heads and pistons are aluminum.
Undercarriage As expected, nothing of notability, just normal wear and tear, but it is really at a minimum.
The consignor states the car was in an accident 4 years ago and it cracked the frame.
Now a new frame with upgraded suspension, (independent coil over suspension), is on all 4 corners gracing this undercarriage.
4-wheel power disc brakes are seen, and all else is structurally sound.
Drive-Ability My climb in and test drive revealed that there are still fun cars to drive that are out there that do not need hours of tinkering prior to doing so.
This car had excellent pickup and ran smoothly.
It's definitely a head turner, and not something you see every day, even at Classic Auto Mall where we see quite a lot, and this car fits right in, and right out of the year of 2002.
I'm back to the future, or should I say past? The Ac, rear defogger are non-functional, the check engine light is on, and the TPMS sensors have been removed.
A retro throwback with all the modern conveniences, and a convertible.
For the modern day hot rodder without all the wrenching.
A drop topper, moving front fenders, Indy style front suspension, and open fender lighting looking the part as you pull up to the drive in in this classic new car from Chrysler.
