Vehicle Description 1967 Ford Mustang Hardtop This may be the most iconic American car to ever be produced.
That's up for debate, of course, as one could argue the Model A, the Corvette, or any number of cars had an equally or more impactful effect on the country.
Considering how many generations and changes the Mustang has witnessed, 1967 represents the first time Ford boldly moved forward to make some significant design changes and even offered engine options for the first time.
This was a bold move because the first generation sales were strong; don't mess with perfection.
But they did and it just kept getting better.
For consignment, a straight, clean, 1967 Mustang that hasn't been overly modified and retains all the classic cues that make these cars so desirable.
It has the C code 289 engine which wasn't the most powerful engine but undoubtedly the most common.
Up until a few years ago this was a single owner car that was passed to the niece of the original owners after her passing.
It appears to be wearing the majority of its original single stage paint which to many people is more desirable than a clear coated and restored car.
It also comes with service records, the build sheet and has been treated to upgrades in the form of power steering and power brakesread on and Giddyup! Exterior Good old Lime Gold covers this car, selected at a time when shades of green were all the rage.
It's fantastically dull in sheen and probably could be buffed to a higher shine, but we don't think it's necessary.
The chrome is good, but the front bumper is starting to show surface rust.
The metal trim in general shows a bit of age but man, it's arrow straight.
The side scoops were new for '67 which accentuates the mid character line of the car, while hood vents add an aggressive feature to the sculpted lines.
Gaps are really good on this car and the stance is slightly raked.
Straight chrome exhaust tips extend well past the rear valance and 15-inch styled steel wheels look like they were born with the car.
The paint has imperfections as we expected; typical chips, scratches, a ding over one wheel arch, denting on the bottom of the rear valance, and a triangle of rust near a bottom door edge.
Interior We open the doors to survivor quality door panels in varying shades light ivory gold and green.
No rips or broken pieces, just some age to it.
The front low back bucket seats look fantastic with Ivory Gold surrounding a tuck and roll green insert that travels from the seat back to the seat bottoms.
The rear seats and surrounding interior trim is in very good condition.
A three spoke steering wheel has the Mustang running horse on the center and finger grooves for extra grip on the smooth plastic wheel.
Symmetrical gauges fill the standard dash and an AM/FM radio is in the center.
A standard T-shifter in shiny metal and plastic looks right at home on the transmission hump, surrounded by loop style gold carpet that is protected by Mustang rubber mats that may be original or obtained from the aftermarket which is vast for classic Mustangs.
The headliner, like a Marine's haircut, is high and tight.
The trunk is clean and topped with a period plaid cover.
Drivetrain The original 289ci V8 is under the hood with a 2-barrel carburetor on top and a C4 3-speed transmission behind.
The engine bay is a few steps above driver quality, very clean and tidy.
Not perfect, but nice for its age.
Power heads back to the rear wheels through an 8-inch rear housing 2.
79 gears.
Power disc brakes are found up front with power drums in the rear and we note the addition of power steering to help navigate those parking lots with ease.
Undercarriage Driver quality here, relatively clean and rust free.
Stainless dual exhaust intersects with a couple of FlowMaster mufflers then exit out the back.
We note some residual oil on the rear diff as well as some on the oil pan and crossmember.
The independent front suspension has coil springs and the rear is suspended via leaf springs.
Drive-Ability A pump of the gas and a flick of the key and it's 1967 all over again! There's no doubt this is how it felt although the new exhaust may have changed how it sounds.
No harm there as we make our way around the mighty lap and the car glides effortlessly forward.
Rattle free and eager to go, this vintage Mustang is going to make the next caretaker very happy.
The A/C doesn't work and we expected that since the belt was removed due to the compressor making some bearing noise, (remember the days of multiple belts?).
Once a legend, always a legend and classic Mustangs will never cease to be celebrated, revered, and just plain cool.
This is a fine example, straight and mostly original, an ideal car for someone new to the hobby or who has a stable full of Mustangs.
Call it lime, call it gold.
