Vehicle Description 1967 Chevrolet Camaro RS Convertible For a mere $105.
35 in 1967, you could check the box for the Rally Sport Package to add to just about any Camaro you ordered from Chevrolet.
And 64,842 people did just that, leaving 156,064 Camaro owners without the package that added headlight covers, relocated reverse lights, rocker molding, badging as well as some interior features.
That $105 option has appreciated greatly over the years and can add as much as 20% to the value of a classic Camaro.
For consignment, a true Z22 code, one family 1967 Chevrolet Camaro RS.
Sold between brothers and then to a brother inlaw who performed a body off restoration between 2004 and 2009, including some genuine GM door skins and body panels he purchased 30 years earlier! The car has been garage kept, has its passenger get ready form, and is now ready to move on to a new family to enjoy.
Exterior Madeira Maroon in two stage form is in line with the N1 paint code and covers the car like a fine wine.
In the front, part of that hundred dollar package and worth every penny is the hideaway headlights and black painted grille.
The side fenders are demarcated with lower case and correct rs emblems and there is appropriate trim at the wheel openings and rocker panel.
The chrome bumpers, window trim, and taillight trim really pop against the dark red paint as do the reverse lights on the rear valance.
A white canvas top provides great contrast too and like the paint, is in excellent condition.
15-inch polished American Racing Torque Thrust wheels shine bright with staggered size tires for a slightly raked stance.
Panel gaps are good and we were hard pressed to find any noticeable flaws on the exterior.
Interior Glossy black topped door panels include geometric stitching pattern on the vinyl and both doors are spotless.
Stepping inside we find front bucket seats, firm and near flawless, mirrored in condition by the back bench.
Everything from the steering wheel forward looks factory fresh too, from the RS emblem on the center cap to the dual gauges, to the shiny black dashboard.
The center stack, lined in silver trim, hosts the vent controls, AM radio, and triple gauge cluster, three gauges with four bits of information and a clock in the center.
Hurst is engraved in the floor mounted shifter and a white ball handle provides the control.
Loop style back carpet provides the floor covering while rs branded carpeted mats along with the rest of the footwells, are in excellent condition.
Drivetrain As advertised on the fender emblems, a correct 327ci L30 V8 is under the hood and was rated at 275 horsepower.
Fed by a 4-barrel carburetor and tied to a Saginaw 4-speed manual transmission, the engine is clean and show worthy perched in the engine bay.
According to our consignor, 3.
07 gears sit in the 12 bolt rear.
Drum brakes live at each wheel.
Undercarriage Satin black paint undercoats a breathtaking underside, spectacularly clean and as show worthy as the top surface.
The dual exhaust flanks the driveshaft before entering a FlowMaster muffler in the back, then leaving in downward facing tips that just barely peek out from under the fenders.
Coil springs on the independent front suspension are matched with mono leaf springs in the back.
If you buy this car, buy some long mirrors so you can show off this side of the car.
Drive-Ability We prime the 4barrel and turn the key and the 327 rumbles to life, just as it has for the past 57 years.
Off we go for a short lap around our loop and find a good running engine with plenty of power, brakes that work, and all gauges, bells and whistles working.
We note two issues to address.
The reverse lights do not work, and the car pulls hard to the left upon braking.
Beyond that, a great ride unburdened by the weight of dirty parts or caked on grease.
An iconic American pony car with a great story and a meticulous restoration in a wonderful color and assembly line like cleanliness.
Oh, it's got a fun stick, and the top goes down.
Anyone can slap on RS items and create a tribute, but this is the real deal.
If you're in the market for a first gen Camaro, put this one on your list.
