Vehicle Description 1936 Chevrolet Pickup Omar Knedlik invented machines to make frozen beverages in the late 1950s.
The idea for a slushed ice drink came when Knedlik's soda fountain broke down, forcing him to put his sodas in a freezer to stay cool, which caused them to become slushy.
The result was popular with customers, which gave him the idea to make a machine to help make a slushy from carbonated beverages.
When it became popular, Knedlik hired an artist named Ruth E.
Taylor to create a name and a logo for his invention.
She created the Icee name and designed the original logo, which is still used today.
Early prototypes for the machine made use of an automobile air conditioning unit.
An ultra-cool consignment here folks in the form of a 1936 Chevrolet pickup hot rod.
Lemon Ice PPG yellow adorns the laser straight steel of this completely buttoned up rodded truck.
SlurpAhhhhhhh! Exterior An all steel example for this front end original looker, but now the once chromed vertical ribbed grille and surround for the radiator are painted yellow.
Round bullet casing styled headlights flank the grille on either side and hang from a bar that runs from the surround to the fenders.
Below is a simple curved chrome bumper.
The curvaceously rounded wonders on front and back are joined together in the center of the truck with a long running board.
Above is an open cowled hood, straight steel doors, and the steel bed which on the sides and gate are nearly perfect.
The bed and tail have been shaved and in the lower roll panel bowtie taillights have been frenched in.
For the bed, new oak planks are seen with shiny chromed strips between each board to fasten it to the chassis.
Drip moldings, rubber window seals, wipers and fender mounted turn signal lights all work together to form a screaming yellow zonker of a truck! Interior The custom hits just keep on coming with the door panels that are covered in gray tweed that is fitted tightly to the embossed panels with a bowtie logo.
A wood panel houses the armrest in light gray tweed, and a billet style actuator is on its end.
Window toggles can be seen at the bottoms of the doors.
Inside gray custom embroidered low back buckets reside.
These are nice and tight and are like new.
The embroidery is a bowtie with a lime green '36 stitched within the bowtie.
A large tilt column has a billet rally style wheel atop and sports a wood rim.
In front of this column is the yellow dash with a shiny metal instrument cluster panel.
It has white faced VDO gauges inserted into it.
A few additional lights are here as well, and the remainder of the dash stretch is yellow painted metal.
Gray carpeting floods the floors and more tweed to cover the vertical surfaces and the headliner.
Inserted on the headliner is a custom upper console sporting a digital AM/FM/Cassette radio and a courtesy light.
Drivetrain Under the hood area open to see is a 350ci V8 engine with a Comp cam installed.
It has a single 4-barrel Edelbrock carburetor and a TH350 3-speed automatic with a shift kit installed.
A 10-bolt rear axle resides in the back under the beautiful bed.
Undercarriage Mustang II for the front, and leaf springs for the rear with disc front and drum rear brakes.
Turbo mufflers take the handoff from the engine headers, and snake rearward in their rust-free condition.
Drive-Ability Slipping inside this tweed smoking jacket interior I fired it up and off to the test track I went.
I noticed on the way that this is really a nice build and I love the tweed! Smooth power from the mill, easy smooth shifting for the tranny, and good handling considering it's a 1936 pickup.
All functions were working well, and I looked good to passersby doing it! A/C has been installed in the form of the compressor only.
A fantastic build which took 6-1/2 years to complete.
Quality parts were used and fit and finish are all excellent and show the effort put into the build.
Don't let this one slip out of our hallowed halls, or you'll be saying life gave you lemons, but you did NOT make lemonade.
