Vehicle Description 1931 Ford Model A Roadster A Coupe is distinguished from a Roadster by the inclusion, (on the Coupe), of glass windows that roll up and down.
The Coupe is less sporty and considered slightly more luxurious because of its ability to keep the passengers out of the bad weather.
It was a more expensive car.
The Roadster is the sporty version of the Model A.
This nearly perfect example of the Model A from 1931 with a rumble seat, is classified a Roadster.
Beautifully restored to original condition, an extremely nice example of early Ford manufacturing with lots of extra options to really make it sing! Purchasedby our consignor in 2014 and now with a detailed repair listing and a laundrylist and then some of new and used parts includedalong with repair manuals and parts catalogs, this IS the Model A roadster you want, correctionNEED! Exterior A dark blue body and for contrast, mixed with black fenders show all correct for a 1931 version.
Straight steel panels with very nice paint are attached all around.
Straw spoked steel wheels, with a single spare tucked into the passenger's front fender give the just right 30's Art Deco vibe.
These wheels are covered with authentic black sidewall tires.
A rear-view mirror adorns the driver side windshield frame and glass wind wings are on to divert air and addan extra touch of class.
These give the driver an extra view as to what is following and were deemed extra add on options.
Running/signal lights are attached to each cowl on the rear sides of the hood.
In the rear are 2 brake lights and double as turn signals.
Also on the back is a luggage rack, waiting for yourweekend getaway luggage.
A medium tan canvas top is in excellent condition.
Lastly, a rumble seat replaces the trunk.
THE perfect place for a Mother-in-law, hence its nickname! Interior Burnt, (saddle), brownish orange artificial leather is stitched perfectly onto the bench seat, the door panels, and the rear rumble seat, and presents in excellent condition.
Black rubber matting floods the floor and is very clean.
Hanging above the carpet is a near perfect dark blue metal dash, with a chromed ribbed medallion attached perfectly in the center.
This houses the original working gauges.
Original restored steering wheel with spark advance lever, and throttle control front the dash which has an eye shaped slightly deeper insert on the front of it, surrounding the cluster.
An original horn blurts out the old ahhhhooga sound just for giggles, but also to tell cows in the middle of the dirt road to get the heck out of the way! Drivetrain The original period 4 cylinder, (201ci), engine is seen in a fairly clean engine bay, and presents with a new head gasket.
Our consignor states the head was machined true and the #3 valve was replaced.
A 1-barrel for the carburetor is now on this engine, and a 3-speed manual transmission is on back.
Turning the rear tires is a 3.
70 geared rear axle.
All working and definitely KISS, (Keep it simple stupid!), format.
Undercarriage Immaculate is the word of the day for the undercarriage of this car.
Obviously, an older frame off restoration with the blacked painted steel frame and gray metal flooring.
Transverseleaf springs are noted both front and rear, and mechanical drum brakes all around as well.
Drive-Ability Following my now well memorized Model A Starting Procedure, the roadster's 4 cylinders came to life.
After a brief warm up we were off to the test track whereitperformedwell on all fronts, but as the norm, with the mechanical brakes stopping must be planned in advance.
A wonderful fully functional drive in a splendid car.
This really nice example can be driven off the showroom floor, or kept as a garage queen, taken to shows, and still has the ability to win awards.
All showroom excellent, it's a wonderful example of throwing yourself back in time and imagining something other than a world in black and white.
All maintaining the ability to go for a drive, in living color.
