Vehicle Description 1975 MG Midget Roadster The name Midget was first used by MG in 1929 and scribed to the M Type, this being MG's first baby sports car based on the then newly released Morris Minor.
In late 1974 the car underwent its final and most significant change, to keep the model in line with the ever increasing safety and emission rules being introduced in the US, heavy energy absorbing bumpers were fitted along with a 1498cc engine from the Triumph Spitfire.
This engine was chosen as it had previously passed all US emission specification requirements, and it was unlikely the A series would without serious development.
This Triumph engine was mated to a fully synchromesh gearbox taken from the Morris Marina range.
Marginally more powerful, this final version could in standard form just reach 100mph, something none of the previous standard cars could achieve, although it took a while to get there.
Its appearance due to the bumpers was considerably altered, the Midget 1500 also featuring a return to the square design of rear wheel arch.
The car then continued in this guise with just slight annual cosmetic revisions until 1979 when production finally ceased on December 7th.
If you have an affinity for British sports cars and love of wrenching then this may be the consignment for you.
We present a 1975 MG Midget Roadster in barn find condition with faded paint, rust, and in need of lots of mechanical TLC.
Don't bloody super-size me, keep it mini! NO TITLE-SOLD ON A BILL OF SALE ONLY Exterior Fairly straight but rusted steel panels with decently minded gaps are bolted on to a miniature frame, and adorned Sabrina rubber crash bumpers and chrome bezels for your visual enjoyment.
Faded blue paint, quite possibly the original coating, is on to these panels giving an unrestored but alluring finish to the body.
Invasiverust has taken over the contrasting black rocker panels and also shows on the lower parts of the doors and rear quarter panels.
A black top matches this contrast but is showing with fading and multiple tears.
The rear plastic windows have suffered the same fate and are heavily hazed, torn and yellowed.
A simple mouthlike opening is in the front of the large rubber bumper with a centered octagonal MG badge.
Sparse but effective trimmings for the side mirrors, window surrounds, rocker trim, and door handles show nicely.
On the back is another Sabrina mandated crash rear bumper, and large vertical taillights on either corner.
Another octagonal MG badge seen on the boot lid.
Sporty mag style silver highlighted wheels are on all 4 corners and show with heavy surface rusting.
Interior A swing of the doors and we have light saddle vinyl for the door panels.
This is showing a bit wrinkled and is peppered with black knobs and a chrome pull for the door release.
The buckets are in matching light saddle vinyl vinyl with a central ribbed pattern to compliment the textured grain.
Surprisingly these seat are tear free with only minor soiling.
The original dash is upfront and is in dire need of a replacement padded topper.
Overall in very nice condition with original gauges and a nice center console in black with an ashtray and the shift lever with a MG badged wood knob topper.
The factory AM/FM radio hangs below the chrome trimmed and mesh grilled speaker.
Faded and soiled tan carpet covers the floors and a peek into the trunk shows an original and unrestored stowage area that holds the spare 5 spoke MG rally style wheel, tools and is structurally solid.
Drivetrain A flip of the bonnet and an unrestored and original engine bay greets us and is looking cracking.
She's a BMC Austin A-series 1493cc 4-cylinder and is fed by a single Zenith CD4 1bbl carb and features overhead valves.
On the back is a 4-speed manual transmission pushing power rearward to a 3.
90 rear axle.
Undercarriage Underneath we note some surface rust, on suspension parts and the edges of the unibody where the floor pans and rockers meet.
Surprisingly enough, the flooring remains in near perfect condition thanks to the liberal application of undercoating.
Front disc brakes are on with drums in the rear and the exhaust has a stock style muffler.
Providing the sporty and surefooted ride is an independent coil spring front suspension that works with a leaf spring suspension in the rear.
A new fuel tank has been installed and is looking just cracking amid the patina finished undercarriage.
A fun car begging to be restored thanks to a very rust free undercarriage.
Good interior, nice patina riddled engine bay, faded blue paint with some black accenting on the lowers, and shiny chrome trimmings throughout.
It's small, it's a convertible and is waiting for your capable hands to once again provide maximum enjoyment in a mini package.
