Vehicle Description 1965 Volkswagen Beetle Coupe Hippie, also spelled hippy, member, during the 1960s and 1970s, of a countercultural movement that rejected the mores of mainstream American life.
The movement originated on college campuses in the United States, although it spread to other countries, including Canada and Britain.
The name derived from hip, a term applied to the Beat poets of the 1950s, such as Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac, who were generally considered to be the precursors of hippies.
Although the movement arose in part as opposition to U.
S.
involvement in the Vietnam War, (1955-75), hippies were often not directly engaged in politics, as opposed to their activist counterparts known as Yippies, (Youth International Party).
I Imagine myself sitting at the corner of Haight and Ashbury, maybe a little high, all my worldly possessions in a bag next to me, and this beautiful cinnamon red restored, bumper-less, very cool VW Beetle passes by.
I'm suddenly motivated to get a job, and try to buy it.
Call it a red tangerine dream or tie dye fancy, but you'll have to admit after seeing this Bug in person you will not be able to restrain your inner Hippie.
And did I mention a fully modded engine with lots-o-goodies added in for super performance on this air cooler.
Exterior A cinnamon red respray with well applied ghost flames covers the classic curved steel panels of this car that are framed on either end with black vertical pushers sans bumpers.
The paint shows some overspray, a few dents and dings and some scratches, but retains its overall shine and of course charm.
Black sidewall tires with the slotted gray steel VW wheels sporting moon caps, which are nice and shiny and of the era, are on.
Mini tail lights, headlight chromed visors anddrumroll please, we're packing up all our stuff, bagging the weed and moving to California.
And it will fit in the.
.
wait for it new word.
.
Frunk, (Front Trunk how 'bout that?).
Interior With very clean and smudge free white vinyl we can smell the utilitarian, which this interior has written all over it in the form of simplicity.
Right down to the billet handles and actuators and small storage bags in the doors, its simplicity in its finest form.
This material covers 2 front buckets and a wide rear bench.
A full metal dash in cinnamon houses the usual round VDO speedo, gas gauge, and now with the souped up engine a few extra gauges to keep the pulse at eye level.
These gauges include oil, fuel, volts and a tachometer peppered around the central large gauge.
Keeping it simple in here.
The radio has been removed leaving the rectangular hole for you to put a killer, (or not), sound system in.
Black carpeting has bug embroidered floor protective mats and above a white vinyl stitched smooth headliner which remains nice and tight.
The Wolfsberg Castle badged, white rimmed steering wheel is in and a newer shift lever is gracing the center between the buckets.
Drivetrain A newer 2.
0 liter Type 4 upright conversion engine is now in.
It includes a mild cam and lifter kit, polished and ported heads, and a custom exhaust to include headers and stainless steel pipes and mufflers.
It is fired up with an MSD ignition, has dual Weber 1-barrel carburetors and a new Freeway Flyer Transmission.
This pairs up with a 3.
60 rear axle.
All looking like new and rust free.
Undercarriage Well cared for, we note some surface rust on suspension parts, and a newer set of floor pans all presenting in all matte gray glory.
The engine area is drip free and lower doors near rockers show no rust.
Independent suspension is on all 4 corners with the rear adding on coil overs.
Drum brakes looking nice and newer are on all fours.
Drive-Ability With a mere 2000 mile ago rebuild this mill fired right up and ran very strong.
It showed some snappy acceleration, ran very smoothly, and sounded great.
A new fuel tank and fill er up as I'm road trippin', (literally!).
It has bias free braking and this car is a fun fun driver.
I think I'll buy it and drive it to Amelia Island for the auction then bring it back and re-sell it, just for a further fun test drive Oh what fun it is to ride in a 65 B U G! It's a fine runner, looks great in Cinnamon, and sans bumpers has just the right feel fora hipster like myself.
Some pop out glass for the rear windows and a clean clean interior.
Snap it up as it's going to be gone like a freight train, and all the good things.
